てんかんは、日本ではよくある病気のひとつです。

乳幼児から高齢者まで、様々な年代の人がてんかんの発作を起こしますが、3歳以下の発病が最も多いです。

また、8割の人が18歳になる前に発病すると言われています。

ただ、日本の高齢化に伴って、高齢者が脳梗塞などを起こして発病するケースも増えています。

てんかんの検査には、主に脳波の検査、画像検査、血液検査があります。

脳波の検査は、てんかんの診断において重要な検査です。

頭に電極を付けて、検査を行います。

画像検査は、MRIやCT検査を行い、脳腫瘍や脳梗塞などがないかを調べていきます。

人間は、血液中のナトリウムやカルシウムが減ると、けいれんが起きやすいのです。

そのため、血液検査も行います。

てんかんの薬を服用している場合は、副作用のチェックも行います。

てんかんの治療は、カルバマゼピンを成分とした治療薬などを使った内服治療が中心です。

患者の中には、一種類の内服薬でコントロールできないケースもあるので、そのような場合は、複数の内服薬を服用して治療していきます。

大人も子供も、ほとんどの患者は薬物治療で発作のコントロールができ、普通の日常生活を送ることができます。

仕事も運動もできます。

ただ、難治性てんかんの場合は、手術で脳の一部を切除することもあります。

内服治療を開始した直後は、眠かったり、体のバランスが崩れたりする症状が出ることもありますが、そのような場合には、薬の量を調節します。

てんかんは、ストレスや睡眠不足で発作が起こりやすくなります。

就寝前にパソコンやゲーム機に熱中すると、パソコンやゲーム機の画面から出る強い光によって睡眠が妨げられることもあります。

ですから、就寝前は、なるべくパソコンやゲーム機を使わないようにして、質の良い睡眠を取るようにすることが大事です。
