11 Kids Have Died From Heatstroke Already This Year; Tips To Prevent Tragedy
Leaving a child unattended in a vehicle can lead to heatstroke and can kill in minutes. Last year, an estimated 31 children in this country lost their lives; so far in 2015, at least 11 have died; and an unknown number of others were moderately to severely injured as a result of heatstroke.
Those numbers, from the San Jose State University Department of Geosciences, and proactive steps to prevent child heatstroke in hot vehicles were announced this morning by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Safe Kids Worldwide at a press conference in Washington to commemorate National Heatstroke Prevention Day.
