More Angst For Doctors, Hospitals If U.S. Automakers Pool Health Purchasing Power

A giant purchasing cooperative holds out the promise of leverage to drive down costs, but the still-fragmented nature of medical care and the wide geographical footprint of the Detroit Three automakers could pose a hurdle to ambitions to use direct contracting to deliver health care to their employees and retirees.
