It’s human nature that as we are exposed to some chemical or substance they body will start to build up a tolerance to it. If you are wondering exactly what tolerance is I’ve got a definition for you. Tolerance is the amount of resistance to a substance. As you continue to take more and more of a specific matter it will start becoming less and less effect on the body. So this begs the question what can you personally do to help avoid tolerance for your favorite workout supplements.
The answer is simply to increase the dosage. This makes sense when you really sit down and think about it. If you body becomes tolerant to the same dose of the supplement after you take it for months on end, by increasing the dosage our body is not yet used to having that much of the supplement’s ingredients in its system. It will have to rework its tolerance and try to build it up again for this newly risen dosage level.
Now this is the answer it’s simplest form. However, with fitness supplements you cannot just increase the dosage again and again. Eventually you will have to much of the ingredients in your system and they could lead to some long term health issues. So what do you do now?
The solution is to ‘cycle’. This consists of taking your body on and off the supplement. As you first start taking it your body will begin to build up a tolerance to it. Once the tolerance gets too high and you don’t feel the full effects you have in the past it is time to go off cycle. This means stop taking the supplements for about a month or so. This will lower the tolerance back down to its normal state as similar to when you first started taking the pill. Once your body lowers its tolerance than you start taking the supplements again. This is just an ongoing cycle, aka why it is called ‘cycling’ in the bodybuilding and weightlifting worlds.
