Yes it definitely is and you can get it even in your late twenties. In most cases, adult acne is more present in women due to hormonal alternations, including pregnancy. Even if you wash your face a lot you can still get blackheads. Acne forms when there is a plug or more medically speaking, a hardened sebum. This plugs stops the opening of the follicular pores on the face. When the sebum blocking the pore comes into contact with air it takes on a darker color. This is where the term blackhead comes from. However if the blockage is under a layer of skin it is called a whitehead because it still has its white form.
When your pore gets clogged the skin around it will become enlarged as the sebum (skin oil) is still being produced below the surface. Think about it for a minute, the sebum produces and pushed itself to the surface via the follicular pore to lubricate the skin. When it’s outlet is blocked via a whitehead or a blackhead it can’t get to the skin’s surface. So it just accumulates underneath the skin. Once the skin stretches too much it will rupture. This is why acne prevention starts with a good pimple cream. The bacteria then will go deeper into the tissue. This causes inflammation which is noticed via a zit or pimple on the skin.
