Eyelashes In Ancient Times

As far back as thirty-five hundred B.C., which is Ancient Egypt, there have been records of practicing of ornamenting the eyelashes. They were dyed, smeared, and dressed up to help bring more attention to the eyes. In fact, one thing that may surprise you very much is that men were recorded to be styling their lashes way more than typical women. It was a common belief that using ointment to style the lashes help to rid the body of bad spirits. This practice was even applied to newborn babies as to help strength their eyesight and keep the evil eye away from them. Some styled their eyelashes to recreate an image of the Sun god, Re.

From a more medicinal standpoint, using serums like Galena, were common practice to ward insects from the eyes. In addition, darker serums were used on the eyelashes in very dry, sunny climates to help protect the eyes from the glare of the sun. Today we practice different methods which can be found at http://idollashbeauty.com/stop-eyelash-aging-with-these-simple-at-home-tips/.

And we can’t forget about the aphrodisiac concept either. Woman used Malachite, another common ointment, as a natural way to attract men. There is evidence of these ingredients found in both glass jars and pots dating back to Ancient Egypt. Many of the colors created by these ingredients were of shades of green and black.
